Enfield Recreation Summer Camp
Welcome, CITs!
Congratulations on being selected for the Enfield Recreation Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program! This summer, you’ll gain valuable leadership experience, develop skills in teamwork and responsibility, and play an important role in making camp a fun and positive experience for younger campers.
This packet includes important information about program guidelines, expectations, and training dates. Please read it carefully and keep it for reference throughout the summer.
Program Overview
The CIT program is designed to:
? Develop leadership and teamwork skills
? Provide hands-on experience working with children
? Teach responsibility and problem-solving in a fun, supportive environment
? Prepare participants for future camp counselor roles
CITs will assist counselors, help lead activities, and take on responsibilities such as organizing special events and supporting daily camp operations.
CIT Training
All CITs must attend a required training session before camp starts. This training will provide the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the program.
CITs will:
?? Learn expectations and responsibilities
?? Develop leadership and communication skills
?? Participate in team-building activities
?? Review safety protocols and camp policies
Program Expectations & Code of Conduct
As a CIT, you are expected to:
? Follow all camp rules and policies
? Be a positive role model for campers
? Arrive on time and be prepared for the day
? Work cooperatively with staff and fellow CITs
? Show respect to campers, staff, and peers
? Take initiative and be an active participant
? Maintain a positive attitude and be flexible in a camp setting
Failure to Follow Expectations
If a CIT does not adhere to these expectations, they may be given a warning. Repeated issues or serious violations may result in removal from the program without a refund.
What to Bring Each Day
?? CIT Daily Checklist
? Refillable water bottle
? Lunch and snacks
? Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
? Closed-toe shoes (required)
? Sunscreen & bug spray
? Notebook & pen (for training and notes)
? Positive attitude & willingness to learn!
CIT Responsibilities
CITs will have three primary areas of focus:
1?? Working with Campers
• Assist counselors with activities and games
• Help younger campers transition between activities
• Serve as a mentor and role model
2?? Camp Operations
• Help with daily setup and cleanup
• Assist with check-in and check-out procedures
• Organize materials and supplies for activities
3?? Leadership Development
• Participate in daily leadership lessons
• Lead small-group activities with guidance from staff
• Work on a Legacy Project to contribute to camp
